July 2018 - Northwestern Mutual Annual Meeting
The NM Annual Meeting took place in Milwaukee and 9 members of the HFS team had the opportunity to attend. It was a week full of learning, connecting, and showcasing what the team is accomplishing in Omaha.
Dan McCoy, Chief Operations Officer at HFS, was asked by the home office to speak in a panel discussion and share his insights about maximizing digital resources to help serve clients better. Dan continues to drive HFS to integrate technology to improve the experience of clients and team members alike.
Lights, Camera, Action! Northwestern Mutual asked Jack to share a powerful story in which the HFS team was able to help a client through a significant challenge and ultimately, helped make their life better.
Tim spoke to group of more than 600 about his key experiences and philosophies and what has helped the HFS team in the continued journey of helping clients build a better life, legacy, and community.
Dan and a group of other sophisticated advisors had a dinner to connect and idea share and also relax and have some fun!
May 2018 - A Night at the Casino to benefit the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society
Together with the Dvorak Law Group and RSM, the HFS team raised over $14,000 for LLS and their mission of curing leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease, and myeloma, and improving the quality of lives of patients and their families. The night was filled with casino games, generously donated prizes, and support from gracious community members. The HFS Team looks forward to the Light the Night Walk in the fall and showing support to survivors, current fighters, and their families.
March 2018 - Northwestern Mutual Wealth Management Conference
In early March, Tim was asked to speak at Northwestern Mutual's Wealth Management Conference in Chicago. The conference is invitation only for the top 250 investment-producing advisors in NM. As one of the fastest growing, top 15 teams in the country, Tim spoke about what HFS is doing to innovate the client experience and HFS's unique value proposition.
February 2018 - 21st Annual JDRF Promise Gala
The HFS group was honored to be a part of an unforgettable evening supporting the mission of finding a cure for Type 1 diabetes. The Omaha and Council Bluffs community and beyond, joined together to raise more than $1.3 Million! The night was topped off with a performance from platinum-selling country artist, Eric Paslay. Congratulations to Scott and Karla Cassels, Event Chairs, and the entire JDRF Omaha - Council Bluffs Chapter.
February 2018 - Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation Founder Visits Omaha
Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation's mission is to changes the lives of children with cancer through funding impactful research, raising awareness, supporting families, and empowering everyone to help cure childhood cancer. Jack, JoAnne, and Kate were fortunate to hear Liz Scott, Founder of ALSF, tell the incredible story of Alex Scott and how she inspired kids and parents from around the country to raise money for childhood cancer research. Today, the foundation has raised more than $150 million and funded 800 medical research grants.
Creighton Private Practice – January 2018
Have you ever wondered what's it like to be a Creighton basketball player? HFS clients got an exclusive opportunity to watch Coach McDermott and the Creighton men's basketball team during a private practice. The group also had a tour of the Championship Center where the team practices. The tour included the state-of -the-art weight room, training room, lounge for the student athletes, and the locker room. Following the practice and tour clients were able to meet the players, take pictures, and shoot around on the practice court.
Cars & Cocktails – May 2017
The HFS team hosted “Cars & Cocktails” at Peter Fink’s personal car museum. Fink is the owner of Certified Transmission and treated guests to private tours of his collection that includes over 50 classic and rare cars and trucks. Guests enjoyed a food truck experience from Maria Bonita Mexican Cuisine and cocktails from PROOF Whiskey Bar.
The Salvation Army D.J.’s Hero Awards Luncheon – May 2017
“It is amazing to see these kids overcome adversity to make big impacts in their communities and reach their goals”, Tim Harrison, Founder and CEO, said. D.J. Sokol courageously battled cancer for over two years before he passed away in 1999 at the age of 18. D.J.’s memory lives on through the scholarship recipients who share his qualities of dedication to others and to their community, volunteerism and leadership. A few members of the HFS team and clients were able to attend the luncheon and listen as Singer/songwriter Jewel shared her story of struggles growing up and performed songs that were thoughtful and inspiring to all.
Swing “FORE” The Masters – April 2017
The HFS team along with clients and friends enjoyed kicking off the Masters golf weekend with some friendly competitions of their own at GolfTEC. Attendees were able to participate in longest drive and closest to the pin contests as well get one-on-one swing instruction. While nobody is expected to play on tour any time soon, a good time was had by all.
Food Bank for the Heartland – Celebrity Chef Event – March 2017
Seth and a few clients enjoyed a night out supporting the Food Bank at this year’s Celebrity Chef Event! Chef Marc Murphy entertained guests with a culinary demonstration and taught them how to season with authority! The night was capped off with a live auction with proceeds going to the Food Bank and their mission to providing emergency food to families in need in Nebraska and western Iowa.
HFS Team Bowling and Jack’s 60th Birthday – March 2017
The HFS enjoyed an afternoon at the bowling alley showing off their skills and celebrating Jack’s 60th birthday! While none of the team members will be joining the PBA any time soon, a great time was had by all!
Creighton Coaches Clinic – February 2017
With sneakers laced up and jump shots ready more than 50 kids participated in the Creighton Men's Basketball Coaches Clinic hosted by Harrison Financial Services. Kids had a chance to learn basketball fundamentals, participate in drills and learn what a day in the life of a Creighton Basketball player is like! The day also included a fundraiser hosted by Northwestern Mutual that raised over $6,000 for pediatric cancer research.
Regional Childhood Cancer Impact Award – January 2017
The Northwestern Mutual Nebraska Network Office received the Childhood Cancer Impact Award at this year’s Central Regional Meeting. The Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation honored the group for raising $100,000 and hosting 28 events statewide. The office received $50,000 to give locally for pediatric cancer research and will make a difference for the children of Nebraska.
HFS Holiday Party – December 2016
The HFS team kicked off the holiday season with an evening of delicious food, drinks and good cheer! Thanks to the generosity of the HFS clients over 50 toys were collected to donate to the Open Door Mission’s “Project Santa” toy drive and make many Christmases brighter this year.

HFS intern AbdulKarim Safi graduated from the University of Nebraska at Omaha with his Bachelors of Science in Business Administration. Abdul is looking forward to kicking off his professional career with HFS!
Uncorked: Women, Wine & Wealth – October 2016
The 6th Annual Women Wine & Wealth event was an opportunity for guests to learn about unique challenges women may face as they approach retirement and enjoy delicious wine pairings from Quench Fine Wines. We would like to thank Joyce Hornig from BNY Mellon Dreyfus for sharing her engaging presentation Enhancing Retirement Knowledge: A Unique Approach for Women.
Leukemia & Lymphoma Society "Light the Night Walk" – October 2016
Members of the HFS team along with their family and friends participated in Omaha’s “Light the Night Walk” to support LLS. The HFS team co-hosted a fundraiser with Jamie and Marisa Herbert and raised over $3,000 which will support the funding of treatments that are saving the lives of patients and pioneering cancer research.
Trap Shooting at Omaha Country Club – October 2016
Under the supervision of professionals and with safety goggles in place, some HFS team members and clients enjoyed an afternoon of trap shooting at Omaha Country Club. Guests were able to participate in games and enjoy friendly competition.
Congratulations Dr. Gil Rude of Kearney, NE – October 2016
HFS would like to congratulate Dr. Gil Rude of Kearney, NE for being named 2016 Family Physician of the Year by the Nebraska Academy of Family Physicians. The Family Physician of the Year award is given annually to a physician who demonstrates a compassionate commitment to improving the health and well-being of the people and communities of Nebraska.

The HFS team recently hosted a “Cars & Cocktails” event at Peter Fink’s personal car museum. Fink is the owner of Certified Transmission and treated guests to private tours of his collection that includes over 50 classic and rare cars and trucks. Guests were able to relax and socialize while they enjoyed cocktails from Grane and pizza from Dante Pizzeria. We’d like to thank our premier fund partners, PIMCO and Franklin Templeton, for helping us put on this excellent event.
HFS Holiday Celebration – December 2015
As another year came to an end it was time for the Harrison Financial Services team to toast to their wonderful clients at the annual HFS Holiday Celebration. To give back during the holiday season, the team supported the Open Door Mission's "Project Santa" toy drive. New toys were collected for all ages and surely brought a smile to many faces on Christmas morning. Part of the Harrison Financial Services team recently went to an event at Peter Fink’s private care museum. Peter is the founder and owner of Certified Transmission and a passionate car collector. Within his collection of 54 cars and trucks are numerous rare production vehicles including a few with serial number 1. Peter even still has his the very first car he purchased.

This summer Carla’s son, Jackson, and his team took 2nd place in his age bracket at the Nebraska State Baseball Tournament! Carla and her husband, Jack, often travel in support of Jackson throughout the spring and summer. Everyone at HFS always enjoys hearing her “baseball family” stories on Mondays in the office and we wish Jackson much success as he continues to play baseball.
Tim & Entrepreneurs’ Organization Nebraska – July 2015
After ensuring all the “T’s” were crossed on his life insurance, Tim participated in a combat flying experience in Council Bluffs, Iowa as part of an Entrepreneurs' Organization (EO) Nebraska's event with Air Combat USA. This exercise had members performing simulated combat maneuvers after taking safety briefings and learning about the effects of G-Force. It was truly a unique experience for all those involved and the entire HFS team was very glad to see Tim in the office the next day!

Believe it or not, this is not Photoshopped! Seth recently went up to Canada for a fishing trip with some good friends and clients for a week. Among the many fish he caught were this 48" Northern Pike and a 29.5" Walleye.

Harrison Financial Services hosted a table at the 2015 Omaha Sports Banquet featuring new Nebraska Head Football Coach Mike Riley. Roger & Tina, along with a few other clients, joined Jack and Dan at the banquet and silent auction put on by B’nai B’rith Omaha to honor two high school student athletes. Following the presentation of the scholarships given to the two athletes, Coach Mike Riley spoke to attendees about what it means to be a student athlete, his transition to the Cornhusker culture, and shared stories from his tenured coaching and football career. It was a memorable night for a great cause.

Entrepreneurs’ Organization (EO) Nebraska hosted a learning event in May 2015 for members and guests with distinguished speaker Jen Shirkani. Jen is an executive coach, author, and noted expert on emotional intelligence (EQ). Tim, Seth, Dan, & Thomas attended Jen’s speech to learn more about how EQ affects the workplace and productivity hoping to apply some of her expertise to Harrison Financial Services. Tim is a founding member of EO Nebraska, past board member, and remains very active in the organization.

In May, Vicky, Vice President & Director of Business Development for MFS, came to visit the Harrison Financial Services (HFS) team to generate ideas on enhancing our total client experience. Vicky has worked with HFS on several occasions including our annual women’s events held at Brix. Her business insight has helped both our clients and our team understand what issues are most prevalent when it comes to caring for parents/grandparents, multi-generational planning, and general economic overviews.

As one of our premier partners, David, Vice President with iShares/BlackRock, provides Harrison Financial Services (HFS) with investment & business consulting, portfolio advice, and provides educational seminars for our clients. Recently, David & iShares helped sponsor our annual Board of Advisors meeting at Cantina Laredo in midtown. During this meeting, the HFS team provided an update on where the firm sits today and our vision of where the firm is heading. This provides the opportunity to receive feedback from clients to continue to embrace our core value of “Kaizen” or continuous improvement. During the meeting, David was able to provide insight on Exchange Traded Funds and answer questions from our clients regarding how ETFs fit into the modern investing environment. Afterward, we all headed next door to Grane to enjoy a cocktail hour.
Jocie – April 2015
The apple of Angie’s eye and the often talked about Jocie is seen here posing for her birthday pictures. Jocie is now five years old and quite the hoot. She enjoys dressing herself in the morning (she is quite the fashionista), swimming, and playing with Barbie dolls. The team often hears stories about Jocie’s daily adventures and we have to say they are hilarious. Angie credits her daughter with showing her how to enjoy life.

Jackson is very active in baseball while Christian enjoys fishing and golfing. Their weekends are often spent travelling to various sports activities and they love going to the College World Series in June.

Angie Bade & Traci Harrison happily working away on a brisk fall morning in support of the Salvation Army. Harrison Financial Services (HFS) and Northwestern Mutual of Nebraska (NM) have sponsored this annual run/fundraiser since 2011, helping raise over 100,000 food items for local pantries. Additionally, we have been able to increase participation in the run by over 100%. Of course, it takes a lot to make this event go smoothly. Along with Angie & Traci, over 40 members of the HFS & NM extended family volunteered to help with the run in 2014.

Tim & Traci have and continue to support UNO by offering a full ride scholarship each year to a student seeking a finance/investing degree along with serving on various boards. Every year, the Harrison clan heads out for a fishing trip to Park Rapids, Minnesota. This is a tradition started by Tim’s dad, Lou, over 20 years ago and has continued without fail since. Lou has been a big part of Tim’s career as a Wealth Management Advisor. He was the first employee Tim hired over 15 years ago, and continues to work for Harrison Financial Services today.

Tim & his kids at an award ceremony put on by the Omaha Jaycees for Ten Outstanding Young Omahans (TOYO). Each year, ten individuals between the ages of 21 & 40 are honored for their commitment to improving the community though selfless acts while excelling in their careers. Tim was among the 2013 award winners. This award has been handed out every year since 1932 and is a great honor for young professionals in the Omaha community.
