Surprise, Dan! Dalma and her quilting group honored Dan McCoy with a Quilt of Valor they made. The mission of the Quilts of Valor Foundation is to cover service members and veterans touched by war with comforting and healing Quilts of Valor. Thank you, Dan for your service and sacrifice!
February 2019: John Gibb invited to judge the CFA Society of Nebraska’s Research Challenge
At the end of February, John was invited to be a judge in the local Research Challenge hosted by the CFA Society of Nebraska. Each of the 3 teams, comprised of students from UNO, UNL, and Creighton, presented their research on local company Green Plains, Inc. and provided the judges a buy or sell recommendation and presented their overview of the company, the industry, challenges and opportunities, valuation and support for their recommendation, followed by a 10-minute open Q&A session with the judges. John is pictured here with the winning Creighton team, who has now earned the right to compete at the national level in New York City!
February 2019: Tim speaking at the NM Nebraska Statewide Meeting
Tim had the opportunity to speak at the NM Nebraska Statewide Meeting in February. He spoke to a group of NM reps from around the state and shared his experiences with building his practice and team, his proudest moments of the past year, and how he created his vision from early on. February 2019: Jack speaking to New NM Financial Reps
In February, Jack was asked to share his knowledge and experience with a group of new financials reps at Northwestern Mutual Nebraska and South Dakota. He provided education on a variety of topics and tips on creating good relationships with clients. We’re wishing the best of luck to the new reps!
January 2019: Northwestern Mutual’s Annual Central Regional Meeting
At the beginning of the year some of the HFS team went to Chicago for Northwestern Mutual’s Annual Central Regional Meeting. The 2-day meeting included a keynote from author and psychologist, Angela Duckworth, who wrote the book GRIT: The Power of Passion and Perseverance. The team resonated with this as Grit is one of our core values.
December 2018: Team Holiday Outing
To celebrate the holiday season the HFS Team learned some new cooking skills from Chef Clayton Chapman at The Grey Plume! Everyone had a chance to try their hand at mixing tasty craft cocktails and putting together delicious appetizers that included beef tartar and oysters. Thank you to The Grey Plume for this wonderful experience!
November 2018 – Holiday Party
The HFS Team kicked off the holiday season with a festive celebration with our team and our clients. Thanks to the generosity of those who attended we were able to collect more than 75 toys to donate to the Open-Door Mission's Project Santa toy drive that will surely make many Christmases brighter this year.
November 2018 – Childhood Cancer Art Auction
Northwestern Mutual Nebraska held its first ever Childhood Cancer Art Auction in Lincoln and both John and Melissa volunteered to help with the event! The painting's auctioned off during the evening were created by inspiring, cancer-fighting children. With every piece of art, there was a story of a child's journey through pediatric cancer and their motivation to fight. All proceeds from the auction will be given to the Pediatric Cancer Action Network. This was truly an inspiring evening!
October 2018 – Women’s Event
On October 30th, the HFS Team hosted our 8th annual Wine, Women, and Wealth event! Attendees were able to hear from a panel of their peers about their experience with financial planning and perspective on how women can be more involved in the conversation. Delicious food and wine was sampled in a three-course meal thanks to the great staff at Champions Run Omaha! Thank you to everyone who attended.
October 2018 – Kim Foundation Annual Luncheon
Later in October, some members of the HFS team had the honor of attending The Kim Foundation - Advocating for Mental Health Services Annual Luncheon - A Time for Hope & Healing. Keynote speaker, Patrick J. Kennedy, shared his inspiring message as one of the world’s leading innovators on the prevention and treatment of mental illness, addiction, and other brain diseases. Thank you to the Kim Foundation for your commitment to reducing the stigma associated with mental illness and suicide prevention and raising awareness for this important cause. We’re honored to support such an inspiring organization!
October 2018 – Tim Speaking in DC
In early October, Tim was asked to speak in Washington D.C. to a group of DC Metro Northwestern Mutual Advisors at the beautiful Gaylord Resort National Harbor. Tim spoke about what the Harrison Financial Services team is accomplishing in Omaha and more. Thank you to Leo Tucker - Northwestern Mutual and the Northwestern Mutual - DC Office for the invitation to speak - it was an honor!
September 2018 – LLS Light the Night Walk
After the Casino Night event in May to raise money for LLS, the HFS Team was very excited to participate in the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Light the Night Walk. Over 1,000 people came to Stinson Park to bring light to the darkness of cancer and it was a truly inspiring evening. The team was very honored to be recognized as the Top Corporate Fundraiser with over $15,000 raised. Thank you to everyone who has participated in our efforts this year. Together we will find a cure for all blood cancers.
September 2018 – 2nd Annual Wealth Management VIP Forum
On September 17th and 18th, the HFS Team hosted the second annual Wealth Management VIP Forum at Creighton University. Northwestern Mutual advisors from around the country participated in the 2-day session to learn more about the HFS value proposition, how best to leverage themselves and their team, marketing strategies, and collaborating with HFS. Mark Stanley, President of the WHY! Consulting Company, shared his passion and presentation, "Do You Have a Grip on Your Business?" Mark helps business leaders clarify, simplify, and achieve their vision.
September 2018 – Sammy’s Superheroes Foundation Glow Gold Omaha Event
September is Childhood Cancer Awareness month! In honor of this, Kate Terhaar volunteered at the Sammy’s Superheroes Glow Gold Event at Village Pointe Toyota. The event was a great time, full of fun activities for kids and families. Thank you to Sammy’s for continuing to raise awareness for pediatric cancer.
September 2018 – Pediatric Cancer Research Symposium
In September, Jack McKeegan had the honor of attending the inaugural Pediatric Cancer Research Symposium at the Fred & Pamela Buffett Cancer Center. Leading pediatric cancer physicians presented including doctors from University of Nebraska Medical Center - UNMC, Children's Hospital & Medical Center and Children’s Health Research Institute. Nebraska is ranked 5th nationally in cancer rates under the age of 15, and Nebraska has the highest pediatric cancer mortality rate in the country.
August 2018 – William Booth Society Reception
In late August, Tim and Traci co-hosted the Salvation Army William Booth Society’s reception at Home Instead Senior Care. In Omaha, 1 in 5 people use the services provided by the Salvation Army including meal assistance, mental health services, and housing assistance. The Army does so much for our community and Tim and Traci were happy to be a part of this special evening.
August 2018 - Husker Event with Sean Callahan
In August, the HFS Team and guests enjoyed an inside look at Husker football with Sean Callahan, Big Red Insider. Sean gave a behind-the-scenes look at the coaching staff, new recruiting class, and a preview of the upcoming 2018 season. The evening was topped off with great stories from Sean’s years of covering Nebraska football and everyone walked away feeling optimistic about the season ahead!
July 2018 - Northwestern Mutual Annual Meeting
The NM Annual Meeting took place in Milwaukee and 9 members of the HFS team had the opportunity to attend. It was a week full of learning, connecting, and showcasing what the team is accomplishing in Omaha.
Dan McCoy, Chief Operations Officer at HFS, was asked by the home office to speak in a panel discussion and share his insights about maximizing digital resources to help serve clients better. Dan continues to drive HFS to integrate technology to improve the experience of clients and team members alike.
Lights, Camera, Action! Northwestern Mutual asked Jack to share a powerful story in which the HFS team was able to help a client through a significant challenge and ultimately, helped make their life better.
Tim spoke to group of more than 600 about his key experiences and philosophies and what has helped the HFS team in the continued journey of helping clients build a better life, legacy, and community.
Dan and a group of other sophisticated advisors had a dinner to connect and idea share and also relax and have some fun!
May 2018 - A Night at the Casino to benefit the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society
Together with the Dvorak Law Group and RSM, the HFS team raised over $14,000 for LLS and their mission of curing leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease, and myeloma, and improving the quality of lives of patients and their families. The night was filled with casino games, generously donated prizes, and support from gracious community members. The HFS Team looks forward to the Light the Night Walk in the fall and showing support to survivors, current fighters, and their families.
March 2018 - Northwestern Mutual Wealth Management Conference
In early March, Tim was asked to speak at Northwestern Mutual's Wealth Management Conference in Chicago. The conference is invitation only for the top 250 investment-producing advisors in NM. As one of the fastest growing, top 15 teams in the country, Tim spoke about what HFS is doing to innovate the client experience and HFS's unique value proposition.
February 2018 - 21st Annual JDRF Promise Gala
The HFS group was honored to be a part of an unforgettable evening supporting the mission of finding a cure for Type 1 diabetes. The Omaha and Council Bluffs community and beyond, joined together to raise more than $1.3 Million! The night was topped off with a performance from platinum-selling country artist, Eric Paslay. Congratulations to Scott and Karla Cassels, Event Chairs, and the entire JDRF Omaha - Council Bluffs Chapter.
February 2018 - Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation Founder Visits Omaha
Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation's mission is to changes the lives of children with cancer through funding impactful research, raising awareness, supporting families, and empowering everyone to help cure childhood cancer. Jack, JoAnne, and Kate were fortunate to hear Liz Scott, Founder of ALSF, tell the incredible story of Alex Scott and how she inspired kids and parents from around the country to raise money for childhood cancer research. Today, the foundation has raised more than $150 million and funded 800 medical research grants.
Creighton Private Practice – January 2018
Have you ever wondered what's it like to be a Creighton basketball player? HFS clients got an exclusive opportunity to watch Coach McDermott and the Creighton men's basketball team during a private practice. The group also had a tour of the Championship Center where the team practices. The tour included the state-of -the-art weight room, training room, lounge for the student athletes, and the locker room. Following the practice and tour clients were able to meet the players, take pictures, and shoot around on the practice court.
